Kendal Mountain Festival on Tour 2020 Harrogate

Fire up your imagination with a thrilling night of adventure.

Watch a collection of our best short films on the big screen and hear from two incredible speakers.

Speakers

Hear from award-winning travel writer Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent who joins us to share tales from her particular love for embarking on difficult journeys through remote regions. Antonia was the recipient of the Royal Geographical Society's 2019 Neville Shulman Challenge Award and will be speaking about her latest journey, a two month expedition through the Naga tribal territories of the Indo-Myanmar border. Travelling by foot, motorbike, boat and local transport, she met former head-hunters, shamans, Baptist preachers, opium farmers, hunters and Naga insurgents engaged in the ongoing struggle for independence from India and Myanmar.

Alan Hinkes OBE, a Fjällräven Ambassador, is the first and only Briton to climb all 14 of the world's highest mountains, a feat achieved by fewer people than have stood on the moon! Boasting an extraordinary mountaineering track record, Alan's frank and humorous accounts make any of his talks a must-see.

Films

Camel Finds Water

Trevor found the hull of an abandoned fishing boat in a field. He brought it home and built it back to a sea-worthy state over the course of a summer. Then, he took it on its maiden voyage to British Columbia in search of waves.

Billder

Billder tells the story of Bill McLane, a mountain bike trail builder. We’ll find out what trails mean to him and how his work impacts his community.

Charge

Four world-class freeskiers and a World Champion drone pilot are dropped at Chatter Creek Cat Skiing in British Columbia for one week. Their instructions: charge as hard as you can every day. This is drone footage like you’ve never seen before…

Sketching the Alps

Running through the Alps it is important to stop and smell the roses... or at least sketch them.

Well Preserved

There is no better way to start the day than an early morning sea swim. A group of women, who call themselves the 'Morning Swimmers of Sandagerði', brave the icy waters of the North Atlantic, along the coastline of the Faroe Islands, for their morning dip in the ocean. They go in every day of the year, sunshine or snow, unless a storm roughs up the water too much. And for them it is as much about connection and friendship as it is about exercise and invigoration.

The Flip

What drives us to step beyond the bounds of what we know even when the stakes are high, possibly fatal? French Skydiver Remi Angeli must face his fears in order to explore new expressions of movement while BASE jumping in Mexico. On the other side of his fear he discovers life in its purist form. *National Geographic Wild To Inspire Short Film Competition Winner 2019.

Running Pastor

A story about Sverri Steinholm, a Faroese trail running pastor. Sverri is an avid runner — both on the roads and ‘in the fields’ as he says — who uses his time on the trails to work through not only his personal conflicts, but the conflicts of others he often is burdened to bear being the local Pastor who must keep everyone’s secrets.
