COME ON, TRY IT WITH ME…
A kayaking teacher throws her students into whitewater, runners make a street beat into a movement, a bachelor party smashes icebergs instead of long island iced teas, and Midland English runners pace themselves with pints to glory in the peaks.
TIM KEMPLE & ANSON FOGEL / Run
What happens when a diverse handful of rebels across the globe co-opts a sport that was long the dominion of yuppies? The answer is at the heart of THE MOVEMENT, an irreverent, music-driven story about the new revolutions in running. In recent years, underrepresented communities have been transforming the sport of running into something beyond the realms of fitness and competition. Running today is a lifestyle, an identity, a raised fist, and a force to blast through social constructs. In cities from London to Tokyo, misfits, punks, and others far outside the mainstream athlete mold have been gathering into run crews that take to the streets in defiance.
JULIE CLEVES AND ROBBIE SYNGE / Inclusive
Over eight years ago, Julie and Robbie set about investigating the physical possibilities of moving and dancing together on the floor. The search for new ways of sharing everyday experiences in turn highlights problems to be solved through novel means.
ZAK BENTLEY / Environment
After an ill-fated expedition to northern Patagonia, in search of one of the oldest living trees on Earth, three explorers reflect on their discoveries and what it means for the future of rainforests.
Boys from the Back of Beyond
JONNY MADDERSON & JONO STEVENS / Paddle / Inclusive
They say it takes a village to raise a child... But it takes an extraordinary village to raise a pair of Olympians. In 2016 brothers Gary and Paul O'Donovan became the world's unlikeliest Olympic heroes when they won Ireland's first ever rowing medal. Hailing from tiny Skibeereen, west Cork, this is the uplifting and comedic underdog story of how a rural community took on the elite sport of rowing.
BRETT WILLIAMS & SIMON WAREHOUSE / Climb
A story of cultural identity and rock climbing exploration as we follow one of Australia’s top rock climbers – 14 year old Angie Scarth-Johnson – on an adventure to a remote and rugged island in the South Pacific.
Dark Peak Fell Runners
MATT HARDY & DAN TWORT / Run
The Dark Peak Fell Runners playground is the Peak District National Park where they weave tracks through the fields, peat bogs and rocky outcrops to create a tapestry of eccentricity, endeavour and endurance. Shot throughout the course of a year, the film follows in their footsteps to reveal their well-trodden routes including the club’s flagship race, the Edale Skyline.
For 2019, due to popular demand, we’ve swapped our day film passes to individual film session tickets. This gives you full flexibility of our programme, so you can choose the exact sessions you’d like to see. More info on this decision here.
We're working hard to make our Festival fully accessible, and there are dedicated spaces reserved for wheelchair users in our venues with the exception of the Fleece Inn. Unfortunately within the Fleece Inn the cinema space is situated on an upper floor with no lift access. To ensure nobody misses out on the action, all film screenings held at the Fleece Inn, will also be held at other venues. For more information head to Festival Accessibility.

Being so close to its outdoor users, Pertex has increasingly chosen to communicate stories through the medium of film. Its six-part series Elemental Journeys explores stories from people whose lives are defined by wild spaces and mountain adventures.
