Berghaus Women in Adventure
After a sell out event in 2018, Berghaus are bringing the Women in Adventure session back to Kendal. An inspirational line-up of athletes and adventurers. We're delighted to announce this year's speakers are:
Hear from the incredible Anoushé Husain who is a champion for all those experiencing barriers and self-limiting beliefs. Born missing her right arm below the elbow, living with multiple health conditions, a cancer survivor, a Muslim and coming from an ethnic minority, Anoushé has never let what society or culture thinks she should do limit her or dictate the direction of her life. She is constantly breaking the mould and challenging not only her own beliefs about her own potential but also that of society and her own culture. She has become a role model to anyone facing a self-limiting belief or barrier and is sharing her journey to help others unlock their potential. A civil servant by day, Anoushé is a paraclimber in the UK, Anoushé is the 2017 Asian Women of Achievement Award winner for Sport and the 2017 recipient of the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration at The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards.
Iona is a Practice Nurse in a busy GP surgery as well as working in various hospital wards. The mountains have become my outdoor therapy, understanding the physical and mental benefits that being outside has on our general health and well being. As well as sharing photos on my Instagram page I set up a walking group last year to connect like minded people and to encourage others to find their own 'every day adventures'. With over 2,000 members the group has become a supportive community built around a shared passion for the outdoors.
The Ice Maidens are the first all-female team to cross Antarctica using muscle power alone.Enduring 62 days on the ice and travelling up to 43km a day, the six women crossed the finishing line in January 2018.The feat saw the women battling temperatures as low as -40C and navigating crevasse fields whilst pulling sledges weighing up to 80kg.

Lee Craigie is an ex-professional mountain biker and long distance bike packer. Lee Craigie became the British Mountain Bike Champion in 2013 and represented Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, but the secret to her sporting success lay in her love of exploring big mountains by bike. Lee’s tales of adventure explore more than just the terrain she passes through. Join her for an insight into the euphoria and the darkness that can be found on long distance, self-supported bike journeys.
New for 2019, we had such great feedback on the event last year, that Berghaus are extending the celebration.
This year we're holding a post event 'meet and greet' gathering, so you can network with one-another, with our partner Berghaus and meet the speakers.
Tickets for this special gathering are limited.
If you'd like to attend please select the green seats on our seating plan. Your 'meet and greet' ticket will include a drink and proceeds will go to our charitable funds - split between World Land Trust, local community conservation projects and projects involving young people
